sharing is a gift
Yesterday I chanced upon the most CHARMING art sale. For my birthday, I decided to venture out to a new art supply store located downtown. I rarely go downtown. Every other thing is more important.
As I walked along the block on what I call the ‘pretty street’, stone-paved and lined local shops, I passed a girl and her mother sitting in front of a small table filled with easels of art prints.
I smiled as I passed. A few paces more and I stopped (tbh, I was a little lost finding the art shop). It was enough time for my heart to catch up with me.
A few steps more and I returned to the table and the girl. She was selling prints of her watercolour art, which she has spent the last 2 years diligently creating.
She could have not been more than 10 or 11 years old. Her eyes were lit up with excitement, but her nerves were evident with the wringing go her hands. Her mother sat quietly beside her, a reserved smile on her lips.
I peppered the young girl with questions, feeling wholly inspired with every response. Such courage.
This was her first sale, besides a garage sale. She created her own venue, she was the only one on the street. Such bravery!
Her art was exquisite and radiated JOY. I itched to buy every single print (it was my birthday after all…). In my mind, I had narrowed my selections down to three and asked her if there was one she especially loved creating.
She hesitated at first, then sifted through the prints and pulled the print my heart was pulsing towards. A match.
What a GIFT. I feel like the universe was reminding me how simple, yet daring, sharing is.
I framed the print as soon as I arrived home. My heart does a little happy skip every time I glance over see it. Happy Birthday to me!
