FILM…. It makes my heart swoon each and every time. The way the light matches its magic with the chemical layers of the film is forever mesmerizing.

With film…

I have to STOP,

read the light,

set my camera,

frame and focus.

In a nutshell, it is therapy.

Inevitably, some images come back out of focus. If I was shooting digital, those would go to the discard pile. With film, there is ALWAYS magic lurking and reminds me that the story is wrapped up in the light and shadows, not the perfect, sharpest image.

It kinda feels like…. The intention of the process is outdone by the simplicity of the result - and that BEAUTY lies at the heart of that.

It should be NOTED… as a whole, I do not do photo sessions anymore - that was old Kyla. Current Kyla has other dreams and schemes. I have refrained from sharing any photography because I do not want to cause confusion and awkward demands… yet I feel like I am hiding a part of myself and it is time for me to GROW UP and stop hiding because I am afraid of feeling uncomfortable when saying NOPE when asked to do something that does not allow me to stop and allow the intention to focus.

Below is film from the last couple of months! A mix of Kodak gold 200, Portra 400 and one really really OLD roll of film (the funky coloured images toward the end).
